Masoud Pezeshkian notes that the elections held on October 26 express the will of the Georgian people.
"I would like to heartily congratulate your excellency and the Georgian people on the successful parliamentary elections and the victory of the Georgian Dream party in these elections.
Hopefully, these elections, which are an expression of the will of the Georgian people, will become the beginning of the progress and well-being of the Georgian people, the strengthening of the relationship between the two countries, and the development of cooperation between the countries of the region.
I will ask the Lord for the health and success of your Excellency and the success of the friendly Georgian people," reads the congratulatory letter.
Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey, Hungary, China, and Venezuela also congratulated Georgian Dream on its victory in the parliamentary elections.
According to EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, the elections were "marked by serious irregularities," which "must be investigated transparently and independently."
Following the election, U.S. President Joe Biden also issued a statement noting that numerous cases of abuse of administrative resources, as well as voter intimidation and coercion, were recorded during the October 26 parliamentary elections. The Biden administration calls on the government of Georgia to transparently investigate all election violations.
As per data from the Central Election Commission of Georgia, Georgian Dream received 53.93% of the votes in the October 26 parliamentary elections. The legitimacy of this result is not recognized by the opposition parties that crossed the threshold, which received the following vote shares:
- Coalition for Change (11.037%)
- Unity - National Movement (10.164%)
- Strong Georgia (8.814%)
- Gakharia for Georgia (7.771%)
President Salome Zourabichvili also believes that the elections were "totally falsified" and that Georgia has become "a Russian special operation."
