"These days, there has been an attempt to overthrow state institutions through sabotage by public officials, which was one of the components of the coup plan. We have seen petitions, written by the same hand, that have been circulated. If I am not mistaken, 229 employees of City Hall signed them. We have about 32 000 employees in the municipality. I would like to thank all those who serve our country with dignity, professionalism, and honesty, who serve this city and its residents.
Believe me, the attempt at sabotage will not go unanswered, of course, within the framework of the Constitution and the law," Kaladze said.
A petition signed by some City Hall employees states that the decision, according to which Georgia will not put the issue of opening accession negotiations with the European Union on the agenda until the end of 2028, "is not in line with the goal declared by the Georgian population, which is reflected in Article 78 of the Constitution."
"We were, are, and remain loyal to our citizens, the Constitution, European values, and the course that Georgia has chosen, and within the framework of our activities, we continue to promote the development of our country as a European state," more than 200 employees of various City Hall departments declared.
Kakha Kaladze also responded to the employees' protest on December 1. At that time, he said that a reorganization was announced at City Hall at the end of November and "therefore, it is good that there is self-lustration."
Lawyers explain that the direct or indirect coercion of public servants to submit their resignation voluntarily, due to their legitimate protest or any other reason, is a crime under Article 169 of the Criminal Code.
