At a briefing today, Kobakhidze stated that it would be a criminal offense for the president to announce the appointment of new parliamentary elections, as well as for her to remain in the Orbeliani Palace after December 29.
"Salome Zourabichvili has less than a week left in her position. During this week, she will not be able to do anything. Although some European politicians and officials are suggesting that a lot can happen before December 29, I assure you that nothing significant will happen before that date," Kobakhidze said.
According to him, the "radical opposition" in Georgia will not succeed, and Salome Zourabichvili will have to leave office on December 29.
"Let's see where she will continue her life - behind bars or outside them. I believe she has enough sense not to violate the norms of the Criminal Code.
If we hypothetically imagine a scenario similar to that of Nika Melia's arrest, where he fortified himself in the presidential residence, this would also be a crime under the Criminal Code. I will repeat once again that no one wants to send a 72-year-old woman to prison, but by taking such an action, she would endanger all those who would be with her in such a scenario, in the presidential residence. I assume a different scenario; I think she still has enough sense not to violate the Criminal Code herself, or allow anyone else to do so, risking long-term imprisonment," Kobakhidze said.
On December 21, Salome Zurabishvili met with representatives of opposition parties and civil society at the Orbeliani Palace, after which she announced that an "attack strategy" had been set. According to the president, the OSCE/ODIHR final report on the parliamentary elections forms the basis for calling new elections, and "all kinds of pressure" should be applied to force Bidzina Ivanishvili, the honorary chairman of Georgian Dream, to make this decision.
