As a candidate for Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze nominated Maka Bochorishvili, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Integration with the European Union, for the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs; Anri Okhanashvili, Chair of the Legal Issues Committee, for the position of Minister of Justice; and Davit Songulashvili, Chair of the Sectoral Economy and Economic Policy Committee, for the position of Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.
The new government must be approved by the 11th Parliament, whose legitimacy is not recognized by opposition parties or the President.
In the 10th Parliament, Maka Bochorishvili, Anri Okhanashvili, and Davit Songulashvili supported the adoption of Russian law on so-called foreign agents. All three were included on the Georgian Dream list for the October 26 parliamentary elections.
“I would like to remind you that Ms. Maka Bochorishvili has extensive experience in the diplomatic service. For more than two years, she has been successfully engaged in diplomatic activities. Since 2020, she has been a member of the Parliament of Georgia, a part of our political team, and Chair of the Committee on European Relations.
Her work has made a significant contribution to our achievements in various areas. Notably, during these years, the country has made tangible progress toward European integration, including obtaining candidate status. Ms. Maka Bochorishvili’s efforts have been instrumental in these successes.
Ms. Bochorishvili is a lawyer by profession. She graduated from the Diplomatic Academy, possesses the necessary education and experience, speaks several foreign languages, and has been awarded the Order of Honor. Her candidacy will be submitted to the Parliament of Georgia today.
Regarding the Ministry of Justice, Mr. Anri Okhanashvili will be nominated as Minister of Justice. As you know, Mr. Okhanashvili is one of Georgia’s most accomplished professionals and lawyers. He received a comprehensive education, first at Tbilisi State University, followed by a Master’s degree from the University of Jena in Germany, and a doctoral degree from Humboldt University in Germany. He has been a member of the Georgian Parliament since 2017, serving as Chair of the Legal Issues Committee for several years with great success. Mr. Okhanashvili is also an Associate Professor at Tbilisi State University and the author of numerous scientific publications. I am confident he will excel as Minister of Justice.
Lastly, I would like to present the candidacy of Mr. Davit Songulashvili for Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture. He has extensive education in business and economics, holding degrees from the Caucasus Business School and the Grenoble Business School, including a Master’s in International Business. He has been a member of the Georgian Parliament for many years, serving as Chair of various committees, including the European Integration Committee and the Sectoral Economy and Economic Policy Committee. Before his parliamentary career, he had notable success in the private sector. Mr. Songulashvili is highly qualified, and I am confident he will be an outstanding Minister in the field of Environmental Protection and Agriculture,” said Irakli Kobakhidze.
He added that the former ministers - Ilia Darchiashvili, Rati Bregadze, and Otar Shamugia - will continue to hold high-ranking positions within the state service.
