"This is not the type of decision that was made regarding the recall of the ambassador in 2022. In this case, according to our information, it is not a political act. A particular representative, if I'm not mistaken, who also has diplomatic status, purchased household items. This was deemed inappropriate given the ongoing war and was the reason for his recall. This is the information we have.
In other words, unlike the recall of the ambassador, this is not a political act; it is related to the purchase of a household item by a representative of the embassy, which, according to the Ukrainian authorities, he should not have purchased under wartime conditions. We are talking about washing machines," said Kobakhidze.
The new Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha, decided to summon the temporary representative of Ukraine to Georgia, Mykhailo Kharyshin, due to "his complete misunderstanding of the reality of the state at war."
For more than two years, Ukraine has had a temporary representative instead of an ambassador in Georgia. The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, recalled Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Igor Dolgov from Tbilisi on March 1, 2022, shortly after the Russian invasion, for consultations. The reasons given were the obstruction of volunteers who wanted to help Ukraine by the Georgian government and the "immoral position" towards the sanctions. In June of the same year, Dolgov was officially released from the post of ambassador.
Mykhailo Kharyshin was appointed as the temporary representative of Ukrainian affairs in Georgia in 2024. Before that, Andrei Kasyanov held this position.
