“For Sergei Shamba, this will be his first working visit to Russia as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia since his appointment to this position in August 2024,” Zakharova stated at the briefing.
As the Russian diplomat says, the ministers will discuss a wide range of topical issues regarding Russian-Abkhazian and Russian-Southern relations, as well as the foreign policy agenda and matters of mutual interest.
“During the tripartite talks, attention will be focused on the problems of transforming the modern system of international relations, as well as on regional security, with an emphasis on coordinating approaches within the framework of the Geneva discussions,” Zakharova noted.
A few days ago, during a press conference at the United Nations, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov referred to the occupied territories of Georgia - Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region (de facto Republic of South Ossetia) - as countries and stated that if the sides are interested, Russia is ready to assist Georgia in reconciling with them. The Georgian government responded positively to Lavrov's statement.
