Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated that the adoption of the Russian Law would not threaten Georgia's European integration. Instead, he argued that its adoption "is a necessary condition for moving forward on the path of European integration." This statement comes despite warnings from European Union leaders, who assert that the Russian Law does not align with EU values and its adoption would "negatively affect Georgia's progress on the path to the European Union."

"We are told that this law is bad. We will reveal the truth, and negotiations will be opened. We did everything to the end, which is why we were granted candidate status," Kobakhidze said today.

The Prime Minister also responded to yesterday's statement by the EU High Representative, Josep Borrell, who said that the Russian Law is incompatible with European values and that Georgian Dream did not fulfill its obligations by reintroducing it. Kobakhidze stated that Borrell is interfering in the country's internal affairs.

"Today, Josep Borrell is involved in political debates that should be conducted within the country. The law is up for debate, and what does the democratic process entail? Political parties in the parliament debate the law, not someone from outside, including even a partner and friend. How will the democratic process function? It is the same in every country - there is a parliament, there is a majority and an opposition. When the discussion revolves around the law, the opposition should be respectful and demonstrate why the law is not good."

On April 29, Georgian Dream will host a "public gathering" in front of the parliament building in support of the Russian Law, at the exact location where daily protests against the Russian Law have been taking place for a week. Employees in public services are required to participate in the rally supporting the Russian Law. As Irakli Kobakhidze said, "everyone will see how much support there is for the ruling team."
