Ministry of Internal Affairs Says Activist Dodi Kharkheli Not Detained

The Russian law of the Georgian Dream party threatens independent media and civil society organizations and hinders Georgia from joining the European Union.

Russian law establishes Putin's rules in Georgia, which has eliminated free speech in Russia.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that activist Dodi Kharkheli has not been detained and that investigative actions are currently underway at her apartment in connection with an ongoing criminal case. The agency declined to provide any additional comments.

For more than two hours, officers from the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have been present at the apartment of digital marketing specialist and activist Dodi Kharkheli.

A video recorded by an eyewitness has been circulating on social media, showing several police officers placing him in a car. “Why are you doing all this? Russian Dream, Russian terror… just because I’m at the rallies,” the activist is heard saying.

In another video, a police officer explains to Kharkheli that a personal search is being conducted based on a judge’s ruling.

Later, Dodi Kharkheli was taken by police to her apartment, where officers remained mobilized.

Media representatives and civil activists have gathered outside the apartment building, describing the actions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs as an attempt at intimidation.

Dodi Kharkheli is actively involved in ongoing pro-European rallies and frequently criticizes the ruling Georgian Dream party on Facebook, where she has an audience of 15 000 followers.
