Sergei Shamba, the de facto foreign minister of occupied Abkhazia, stated that a victory by the "confrontational" opposition in Georgia's parliamentary elections would not serve their interests.

As Shamba noted, Abkhazia welcomes the normalization of Russia-Georgia relations.
"I believe it is in our interests for their relations to develop normally. I do not believe that Russia can withdraw its recognition of Abkhazia's independence.
The prospect of Russia and Georgia establishing normal relations should not alarm us, as the priority for any state should always be peaceful relations with its neighbors. If the confrontational opposition wins in Georgia, I don't think it will be in our interests," said Sergei Shamba.
Parliamentary elections in Georgia are scheduled for October 26. At the end of August, Russian foreign intelligence announced that the United States is preparing a color revolution in Georgia. According to Russian state propaganda media, based on the intelligence service's press center, it is planned not to recognize the election results and to demand a change of government, while law enforcement agencies will be provoked to suppress protests by force. The US State Department has denied these allegations.
In addition, Georgia's ruling party claims that the "radical opposition" is "preparing to disrupt the situation" following the elections.
"It is absolutely clear that they will not recognize the results of the elections next time. They will attempt to attack state institutions and create disturbances in the country," said Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, who is also the head of the Georgian Dream election headquarters, during a briefing held today, September 4.
As Kobakhidze says, any attempts at provocation will fail, and any criminal actions will be met with severe punishment.
