The Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, has appealed to the President to schedule an extraordinary session of the Parliament on July 18-19. During the Bureau session, Papuashvili stated that if President Salome Zourabichvili attempts to interfere with the work of the Parliament, he will announce the appointment of the session at a later date.

"Probable issues on the agenda are the election of the General Prosecutor, the project on amnesty, and several draft laws related to education," Papuashvili said. According to him, on Thursday, June 18, the legal affairs committee will listen to the candidate for the position of General Prosecutor, Giorgi Gabitashvili, and on the same day, at the plenary session, they will vote on his candidacy. On Friday, they will adopt the bill on amnesty in the first reading.
The opposition will not support the election of Giorgi Gabitashvili as General Prosecutor. Girchi member Aleksandre Rakviashvili believes that when the mandate of the Parliament of the 10th convocation expires, it is wrong to elect a new General Prosecutor for a period of six years. According to MP Teona Akubardia, she will not participate in the voting.
"I don't think anyone should be surprised by who will be chosen as the new General Prosecutor, because we all know everything. This is the executor of the will of the oligarch, the former deputy of Partskhaladze, the representative of Russia's FSB. I am not going to participate in the voting, because I don't think that the whole farce they staged will serve to elect a prosecutor who will be from Georgia and not Bidzina Ivanishvili," said Teona Akubardia. Giorgi Gabitashvili has been the Deputy Prosecutor General since 2013.
The spring session of the Parliament was closed on June 28. According to the Constitution of Georgia, during the period between sessions of the Parliament, the President calls an extraordinary session at the request of the Speaker of the Parliament. If, within 48 hours after the submission of the written request, the President has not issued an act of convening, the Parliament shall meet within the next 48 hours according to its regulations. The extraordinary meeting is held only with the agenda determined by the initiator and is closed upon its expiration.
