Prime Ministers of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Montenegro have arrived in Georgia for the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum. ‘‘This is the fourth time since 2015 that we are hosting this important gathering in Tbilisi. Of course, this is a major opportunity to showcase Georgia and the progress we have had in recent years’’, said Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili.

Almost 2300 guests from 63 countries are attending the forum, among them are ministers, heads of international organizations, general directors, and top brass managers representing up to 250 companies.
‘‘This is the fourth time since 2015 that we are hosting this important gathering in Tbilisi. Of course, this is a major opportunity to showcase Georgia and the progress we have had in recent years. The significance of the Silk Road, both historically and today, goes far beyond just a trade route. This ancient route facilitated the movement of porcelain from country to country, as well as the flourishing of tea culture and a vital connection between Europe and Asia.
This road linked Western and Eastern cultures and served as a conduit for innovation and knowledge sharing. Our historical connection with the Silk Road is indisputable. Before this road reached the west, it passed through the varied terrain of Georgia, which was described by Greek historians as an important crossroad for the trade network.
All this is corroborated by archeological evidence, such as Chinese porcelain shards unearthed in Dmanisi and a Chinese coin dating back more than 1200 years that was found in Mtskhetisjvari.
Since the prehistoric period, Mtskheta, the ancient capital of Georgia, was indeed an important logistical junction where the main routes of the Caucasus converged. The Silk Road played a major role in facilitating the forming of closer ties with the wider world. In this common context, the religions, customs, and traditions that exist in the countries of the East and the West unite in this place, which we proudly call Georgia. 9 years ago at the United Nations, I realized the significance of the Silk Road and the importance of joint efforts to realize its potential. In just one year, in 2015, we hosted the first Silk Road Forum in Tbilisi, and have continued this tradition since. There is no doubt that Georgia has truly become an integral part of the East-West relationship’’, stated the Prime Minister.
This year's forum focuses on trade facilitation, the development of e-commerce, digital communications, transport infrastructure, and energy.
