"It is cynical that the law being considered in Congress is called the MEGOBARI Act when the act itself is directly hostile. I used to call this law the DAUDZINEBELI Act. This law should have such a title. Very sad. All this will not help the improvement of Georgian-American relations," said Georgian Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, regarding the bill initiated in the US Congress, which also provides for sanctioning the persons responsible for the adoption of the Russian Law.

In addition, Kobakhidze referred to the sending of a letter by the opposition parties to Congressman Joe Wilson, in which they express hope for the quick passage of the MEGOBARI Act, as "a continuation of betrayal."
"At the time, a century ago, in 1920-21, exactly such letters were sent to Moscow. They arrived in Moscow and brought such information. All this ultimately led us to the occupation of Georgia. Today, the only difference is that these people, the modern Sergo Orjonikidzes, do not go to Moscow but to Washington in order to somehow harm our country," Kobakhidze said.
The MEGOBARI Act was initiated by Republican Congressman Joe Wilson, Chairman of the Helsinki Commission, after the Georgian Dream passed the Russian Law on so-called Foreign Agents. It provides for the prosecution of those responsible for advocating, adopting, and enforcing the Russian law.
On the other hand, the MEGOBARI Act, after confirming significant democratic progress in Georgia, defines US aid. This includes negotiations for a more favorable trade agreement, simplification of the visa regime, and provision of security and defense support to counter Russian aggression.
Joe Wilson believes that the United States of America should not allow the attack on Georgian democracy and its Euro-Atlantic future to go unanswered.
The MEGOBARI Act is a bipartisan document, meaning it has the support of both Republican and Democratic lawmakers.
