As per the prosecutor's office, as part of the ongoing investigation into the criminal case, Beka Jaiani was subjected to a covert investigative measure - a secret audio-video recording, in which he discussed the details of the crime.
The investigation established that about a week before the murder, Kesaria Abramidze and the defendant had a disagreement on a personal matter, leading to their breakup. According to case materials, on September 18, the day of the murder, at around 3:50 p.m., the accused, Beka Jaiani, purchased an Opinel folding knife from a shop on Adam Mickevich Street and decided to meet with Kesaria Abramidze.
"According to the accused, Kesaria Abramidze agreed to the meeting in exchange for the publication of photos depicting their relationship on social media. To arrange the meeting and carry out his plan, the accused agreed to make the photos public, after which Kesaria Abramidze uploaded the photos to the social network," the prosecutor's office stated.
The investigation further established that Beka Jaiani took a taxi from the area near Saakadze Square to Kesaria Abramidze's residence at around 7:10 p.m., stopped at a nearby Nikora store to purchase alcoholic beverages, and arrived at Abramidze's apartment at approximately 7:27 p.m.
"Following a dispute, motivated by revenge, the accused first struck Kesaria Abramidze and then, on the same day, inflicted 28 stab wounds in various parts of her body with the knife he had purchased. As a result of the injuries, Kesaria Abramidze died on the spot.
About 20 minutes later, the accused left Kesaria Abramidze's apartment in a hurry. He made his way from Avtandil Street, through Vepkhistkaosani Street, to Mirian Mepe Street, and then to Parnavaz Mepe Street, where he arrived at a relative's apartment. He changed only his bloody shirt and left the apartment, after which he took a taxi to the Didube metro station, then rode the metro to the Sarajishvili station, and finally took a taxi to Senaki. Police arrested Jaiani near Kopitnari Airport."
Beka Jaiani is charged with premeditated murder based on gender and with particular cruelty (Article 109, subsections h and m of the Criminal Code). The crime is punishable by 16 to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
The prosecutor's office is requesting that the court impose pretrial detention on the accused. Beka Jaiani is being represented by a public (state-appointed) lawyer.
