Imprisoned oppositionist Alexei Navalny and his team are calling on Russian citizens to go to the polls and vote against Putin.
“There is no doubt that the election will be a travesty and the final results, as always, will be rigged. But with any election, even the most fake one, doubts arise. People wonder who is in power and why they are there. The task of the Russian opposition, and all honest society, is to answer these doubts with all their might. Agitation; explanation of the fact that 71-year-old Putin, who has been in power for 24 years, should not stay for another 6 years. He will hurt Russia, he should go,” says Navalny's team.
Putin's term as president expires on May 7 next year. As a result of the 2020 constitutional reform, his presidential terms were annulled, allowing him to be elected twice more, in 2024 and 2030, and to remain in power until 2036.
After the start of the war in Ukraine, the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Putin. The Russian president is accused of war crimes.
