Russian President Vladimir Putin will make a state visit to Azerbaijan on August 18-19. According to the Kremlin, the visit will focus on discussing the further development of the Russia-Azerbaijan strategic partnership and allied relations, as well as current international and regional issues.

At the end of the visit, Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev are expected to make a joint statement and sign intergovernmental and other documents.
Putin's last visit to Azerbaijan was in September 2018. In March 2023, a year after the full-scale invasion and war in Ukraine, the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Putin. Azerbaijan is not a signatory to, nor a party of, the Rome Statute, the founding treaty of the court.
