The Basmani District Court of Moscow sentenced Mamuka Mamulashvili, a Georgian citizen fighting on the side of Ukraine and the commander of the Georgian Legion, to two months of imprisonment in absentia as a preventive measure.

According to the TASS agency, the prison term will start from the moment of Mamulashvili's extradition or arrest on the territory of the Russian Federation.

“A federal and international search has been announced for Mamulashvili. He is accused of engaging in mercenary activities and inciting hatred through the media,” said a TASS respondent.

The Russian Investigative Committee accuses Mamuka Mamulashvili of creating and leading an armed formation on the territory of Ukraine, as well as involving at least 24 Georgian citizens in the activities of the ruling Georgian Legion and other Ukrainian armed formations. In addition, the investigative committee announced that they are searching for an interview with Mamulashvili on the Internet, where he calls for the destruction of Russian soldiers.

According to the investigation, other individuals participating in the activities of the Georgian Legion have been identified, and they are involved in combat operations against the armed forces of Russia in Ukraine.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia announced the search for the commander of the Georgian Legion in October 2023. Before that, Mamuka Mamulashvili and more than 70 members of the Legion were charged in absentia.

Russia has announced the search for at least 100 citizens of Georgia. In February 2024, the independent Russian publication Mediazona published the Ministry of Internal Affairs database, according to which, among the wanted persons are the member of the Parliament of Georgia Aleksandre Elisashvili, the leader of the Anti-Occupation Movement Davit Katsarava, the lawyer Beka Basilaia, and the former Minister of Defense of Georgia Irakli Okruashvili. All four of them fought in Ukraine at different times. Russia is also looking for the Georgian fighter Vano Nadiradze and the military nurse Keti Leshkasheli, who are currently in Ukraine.
