Broadcasting of 81 EU media outlets in Russia and access to their websites will be restricted. German publications such as Der Spiegel, Die Zeit, and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, along with the French news agency Agence France-Presse and newspapers Le Monde and Liberation, will be affected. Spanish newspapers El Mundo and El Pais, the EFE agency, Italian newspapers La Stampa and La Repubblica, as well as the European and American editions of Politico, will also face these restrictions.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the restrictions apply to media outlets that "systematically spread false information about the special military operation."
“The Russian side has repeatedly warned at various levels that politically motivated persecution of Russian journalists and unjustified bans on Russian media outlets in the EU will not go unanswered. The Russian side will revise its decision concerning the above-mentioned media operators, if restrictions against Russian media outlets are lifted,” the Russian Foreign Ministry noted.
Since June 25, the European Union has blocked access to four additional Russian propaganda media outlets: Ria Novosti, Voice of Europe, Izvestia, and Rossiyskaya Gazeta. According to the Council of the European Union, these media outlets are under the constant direct or indirect control of the leadership of the Russian Federation. They have played an important role in supporting Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine and in destabilizing neighboring countries.
After Russia launched a war against Ukraine in February 2022, the European Union suspended the operations of the Kremlin's propaganda media outlets, Russia Today and Sputnik.
