On December 10, during an event held at the Orbeliani Palace, the President addressed journalists, assuring them that they are truly standing as guardians of the country.
“You are the individuals who have taken not only the camera and microphone into your hands but also the future and fate of this country. For this, your names will be written in the history of Georgia - as the heroes of today, of this era. It is not easy to stand where these beasts are, to face them and dare to ask questions, even when tear gas is released. To stand firm, remain unmoved, and stay with your people - that is true courage,” Zourabichvili said.
The President expressed her gratitude to the journalists, emphasizing the essential role of the media as a window to understanding current events.
“I want to express my deepest gratitude to you, though I know you do not do this for gratitude. You do it because you fully understand the meaning of professional obligation.
Tomorrow, perhaps, you will face even stronger pressure if this situation continues, because you are the window through which we see what is happening. Without you, people who cannot attend the demonstrations would not know what is taking place.
Even between different parts of the protests - whether in various areas of the city or in other cities - we would not realize that the entire country is united against this injustice. Your presence, your dedication, is vital today, tomorrow, and always. I am honoring you today for this commitment,” Zourabishvili concluded.
