"The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia, within its authority, is taking all legal measures to ensure that individuals who have committed crimes in Georgia are brought to justice in Georgia, regardless of their whereabouts," announced the Prosecutor's Office.
Former Minister of Justice and former Prosecutor General of Georgia, Zurab Adeishvili, currently holds Ukrainian citizenship and serves as an advisor to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine. Over the past month, he was in Brussels and Berlin as part of the Ukrainian delegation. Alongside the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Andriy Kostin, Adeishvili met with the Director-General of the General Directorate for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Commission, Gert Jan Koopman, and also participated in official meetings held in the German Bundestag.
Following meetings with Zurab Adeishvili, EU Ambassador Pawel Herczynski and German Ambassador Peter Fischer were summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. Before this, a representative of the European Union clarified that any alternative portrayal of the meeting at the European Commission is misinformation intended to discredit the European Union.
On March 11, the Government of Georgia issued a statement expressing concern over Zurab Adeishvili's role as advisor to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, as well as Giorgi Lortkipanidze, the former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, serving as head of the counterintelligence service.
"The individuals in question led the authoritarian regime of the previous Georgian government, resulting in loss of life, health, and well-being for many. Zurab Adeishvili has been convicted in cases involving the illegal confiscation of a wine factory, seizure of the TV company Iberia, kidnapping and brutal violence against Koba Davitashvili, torture of prisoners, and the bankruptcy of Cartu Bank. He is also accused of raiding and kidnapping the TV company Imedi, involvement in the violence of November 7, 2007, and obstruction of justice in the Robakidze murder case. Giorgi Lortkipanidze is accused of involvement in the violence of May 26, 2011, and aiding Mikheil Saakashvili in illegally crossing the border," says the statement released by the government administration.
The Georgian side notes that, for the regulation of Georgia-Ukraine relations, the Ukrainian authorities must hand over the criminals to Georgia.
