The deputies of the de facto parliament of South Ossetia are going to appeal to the parliament of Belarus for the recognition of the independence of the Republic of South Ossetia. MP Alan Tekhov made this proposal on June 5 at the so-called parliament session.

“We have an opportunity. If before they were held back by certain political repercussions, including sanctions, today sanctions are already in place,” said the so-called deputy and added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should also address Belarus with this matter.

The so-called chairman of the parliament, Alan Alborov, assigned the processing of the issue to the chairman of the committee on foreign policy and inter-parliamentary relations, Zaza Driaev.

In early February 2022, the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, announced that he would recognize the independence of the occupied territories of Georgia if Russian President Vladimir Putin told him it was necessary. In September of the same year, Lukashenko visited the occupied Abkhazia and met with the leaders of the separatist government at the Bichvinta state farm.

Today, the independence of the occupied regions of Georgia – Abkhazia, and Tskhinvali – has been recognized by Russia, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Nauru, and Syria.
