Eleven candidates were submitted for the vacant position of Prosecutor General on the Prosecutor's Council. Among them is Giorgi Gabitashvili, who has served as Deputy Prosecutor General since 2013.

According to the Prosecutor's Council, Giorgi Gabitashvili was nominated by representatives of academic circles, who are also prosecutors, as well as by the non-governmental organization Legal System Development Research Center. Additionally, 463 prosecutors and investigators from the Prosecutor's Office expressed their support for him.
The list of the remaining 10 candidates is as follows:
- Paata Shavadze - lawyer, personally submitted his candidacy to the Prosecutor's Council
- Viktor Akhalbedashvili - lawyer, presented by IP Rights Protection Center
- Davit Barbakadze - lawyer, presented by Friendship Bridge - Kartlos organization
- Aleksandre Kobaidze - lawyer, personally presented his candidacy to the Prosecutor's Council
- Lazare Zorbenadze - lawyer, nominated by the Georgia party
- Salome Januashvili - lawyer, presented by representatives of academic circles
- Andronik Saribekovi - lawyer, personally presented his candidacy to the Prosecutor's Council
- Grigol Gagnidze - lawyer, presented by several non-governmental organizations: Union of Law, Belief in the Truth, Politics and Law Observer, Agency for the Development of Justice and Democracy, and International Organization for the Protection of Human Rights and Social Security of Prisoners, Support for Disadvantaged and Vulnerable Groups
- Darejan Butskhrikidze - lawyer, personally presented his candidacy to the Prosecutor's Council
- Lali Bunturi - lawyer, presented by the Georgia party
The nomination of candidates for the Prosecutor General's Office ended yesterday, June 27, at 00:00. The Prosecutor's Council will select at least three candidates and submit them to Parliament, which will elect the Prosecutor General of Georgia with a majority of its full composition.
The position of Prosecutor General became vacant after Irakli Shotadze resigned "due to a complicated health condition."
According to the Organic Law of Georgia "On the Prosecutor's Office," a citizen of Georgia with no criminal record and a higher legal education, who enjoys high authority due to morals and professional qualities, can be elected as the Prosecutor General. The candidate must also have at least five years of experience working as a judge or prosecutor in criminal cases, or as a lawyer in criminal cases, or have at least ten years of experience as a lawyer and be a recognized specialist in the field of criminal law from higher academic circles or a civil society organization.
