In Tbilisi, Kareli, and Gori, seven people were arrested on charges of membership in the Criminal Underworld and supporting its activities, while five people, including four so-called thieves in law who are abroad, were charged in absentia.

Those arrested are: G. Ch., born in 2000; Z.G., born in 1972, (nicknamed Bakha); and individuals with prior convictions: D.G., born in 1981 (nicknamed Shramiani); M.B., born in 1981; G.K., born in 1995; Z.D., born in 1978; and D.I., born in 1995 (nicknamed Shock).

Charges were presented in absentia to V.C., born in 1986 (nickname Tsknapa), and four thieves in law who were convicted in the past: Ariki Mikhaeli (nicknamed Iziki), born in 1961; Ilia Gagloev, born in 1981 (nickname Ilo Kaliningradski); Paata Vashakidze, born in 1974 (nickname Eshkha); and Malkhaz Darchiev, born in 1982 (nickname Makho).

Teimuraz Kupatadze, the Internal Affairs Ministry Central Criminal Police Department Director, stated that the investigation established that a Georgian citizen living abroad approached members of the Criminal Underworld and asked to resolve the conflict in exchange for financial benefits. In turn, the members of the Criminal Underworld involved Thieves in Law in the case. They personally used the money received for conflict resolution and did not pay it to the thieves in law - Ilia Gagloev and Paata Vashakidze.

"The thieves in law became aware of the embezzled amount, and a Criminal Skirmish was organized to discuss this action. Also involved in the case were thieves in law - Ariki Mikhaeli, nicknamed Iziki, and Malkhaz Darchiev, nicknamed Makho. At the same time, as a result of the investigation in the criminal case, D.I. (nicknamed Shock), who acted in the name of a thief in law abroad and forced the disputing party to pay a certain amount in a specified time in favor of the other party," said Teimuraz Kupatadze.

The case is being investigated under the articles of membership in the Criminal Underworld thieves in law, and supporting the activities of the Criminal Underworld. Crimes are punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
