The European Council reaffirms the EU’s readiness to support the Georgian people on their European path. However, it also reiterates serious concerns about actions taken by the Government of Georgia that contradict the values and principles on which the European Union is founded.
The European Council stresses that "such a course of action jeopardizes Georgia’s European path, and de facto halts the accession process." It urges Georgia to implement democratic, comprehensive, and sustainable reforms in line with the core principles of European integration.
“The European Council will continue monitoring the situation closely,” the conclusions state.
The Council expects the October 26 parliamentary elections to be free and fair, in accordance with international standards, with unrestricted access for both international and local observers. It also emphasizes the importance of safeguarding free and pluralistic media.
Once again, the European Council affirms the EU’s unwavering support for Georgia’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. It underscores the EU’s ongoing commitment to peaceful conflict resolution, non-recognition, and engagement policies.
