"This district has been canceled because it was here that the opposition won, specifically Unity - National Movement. They knew this very well. Because of this, the deputy chairman of the council, who has still not been arrested, demonstratively committed a criminal offense.
Marneuli is no exception. We see this trend across the country: where the opposition wins, representatives of Georgian Dream resort to physical confrontation to cancel the precincts," said Tina Bokuchava.
An observer from My Vote recorded a video depicting illegal actions in the 69th election precinct of Marneuli, after which, according to the monitoring mission, he was physically assaulted and expelled from the precinct. One of the individuals who placed the ballots in the box is Rovshan Iskandarov, the Deputy Chairman of the City Council and a member of Georgian Dream. He was present in the 69th district as a party representative.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched an investigation into the incident under Article 1643 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to election fraud. The crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to two years.
The executive secretary of the ruling party, Mamuka Mdinaradze, labeled the ballot stuffing a "staged spectacle" and a "provocation."
