“It’s clear that the attack on Misha Mshvildadze was orchestrated, and unfortunately, the state security service was involved, which is supposed to be providing security and not beating up journalists and framing it as some impulse crime by a distraught, patriarch-loving young man. Facts point to the SSSG operative playing a part in this attack. All this requires an immediate response,” said journalist Davit Kashiashvili, who spoke about the newly-emerged details of the attack on the air of Formula.
Based on the information obtained by the journalists, Giorgi Mumladze was tailing Misha Msvildadze on Vazha-Pshavela Avenue and observed the attack. According to Formula, Giorgi Mumladze was accompanied by another man who is also an SSSG employee. The formula TV did not name this person.
According to the channel, Giorgi Mumladze, born in 1998, is the godson of the deputy head of the State Security Service, Levan Akhobadze, and works under his wing. Before joining SSSG, Giorgi Mumladze worked in the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In addition, according to Formula, three vehicles were involved in the attack, which, according to the source of the channel, belong to the Department of SSSG.
The State Security Service has not yet commented on the information reported by Formula TV.
Misha Mshvildadze was attacked on the evening of June 27, while entering a supermarket by himself. On the following day, Nikoloz Gugeshashvili posted a statement on social media taking responsibility for the attack: “I am Nikoloz Gugeshashvili, from Gldani, a father of four. Yesterday, I was at Vazha-Pshavela Street, near Carrefour supermarket, where I beat Misha Mshvildadze. The reason for the assault was that he refers to the church as criminals, says that a cross is a symbol of violence, swears at the patriarch, Georgian nation, and protects homosexuals, also, insults me and my friends from Facebook. I am not going to hide,” wrote Nikoloz Gugeshashvili.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs arrested Nikoloz Gugeshashvili. The court sentenced him to prison. The case is being investigated under Article 126 of the Criminal Code, which refers to beating or other forms of violence. Misha Mshvildadze and Formula TV demand to change the qualification of the case.
The suspicion that the assault on Misha Mshvildadze was pre-organized appeared from the very beginning, which is supported by the fact that Nikoloz Gugeshashvili confessed to the crime in a similar manner as the attacker of Zurab Japaridze, the leader of the Girchi - More Freedom party, did a few days earlier. In addition, Vato Shakarishvili, the founder of the Georgia First movement, attended the trial of Nikoloz Gugeshashvili and demanded the release of the defendant. Vato Shakarishvili was the first to respond to the violence against Zurab Japaridze on Facebook. He also led a group of thugs who stormed the youth camp in Borjomi at the same time as the attack on Japaridze was taking place. Zurab Japaridze was going to this camp to conduct training when he was attacked in Gori.
