In the first six months of the current year, 40.8 thousand tons of wine were exported from Georgia to Russia, representing a 36.1% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

Based on the report from the National Statistics Office of Georgia, the value of wine exported to Russia amounted to 111.1 million US dollars. In the first six months of last year, the same figures were 29.9 thousand tons and 81.8 million dollars.
According to Geostat data, in January-June 2024, light vehicles ranked first in the top ten export categories with 933.9 million US dollars, accounting for 32.8% of all exports. Natural grape wines ranked second with 156.6 million US dollars, representing 5.5% of total exports.
Currently, wine from Georgia enters Russia with zero tax. In March 2024, the Association of Russian Vintners and Winemakers, chaired by propagandist journalist Dmitry Kiselyov, appealed to the Russian government with a proposal to cancel the duty-free import of Georgian wines. In June, it became known that this initiative did not gain support; however, Russian media report that it is being discussed again and may be implemented in August.
