In the second quarter of 2024, Georgia's unemployment rate decreased by 3.1 percentage points compared to the same period last year, bringing it down to 13.7%, according to the National Statistics Office of Georgia.

Based on the Sakstat report, in April-June of this year, the number of hired workers increased by 19.1 thousand (2.1%) compared to the same period last year, reaching 935.8 thousand, while the number of self-employed individuals rose by 41.3 thousand (10.1%) to 451.5 thousand.
"During the same period, the number of unemployed decreased by 47.2 thousand (17.7%) to 219.7 thousand," the report states.
In the second quarter, the labor force participation rate (the share of the labor force in the population aged 15 and older) increased by 1.3 percentage points year-on-year to 54.5%, while the employment rate rose by 2.8 percentage points to 47%.
Sakstat notes that employment levels have increased in both urban and rural areas. Specifically, employment in urban areas rose by 3 percentage points, while in rural areas it increased by 2.5 percentage points, reaching 47.9% and 45.8%, respectively.
Compared to the same period last year, the share of hired workers in the total number of employees decreased by 1.6 percentage points to 67.5%.
The unemployment rate remains traditionally higher among men than women. In April-June, compared to the same period last year, the unemployment rate among women decreased by 3.6 percentage points, while among men, it dropped by 2.6 percentage points, resulting in rates of 10.9% for women and 15.9% for men.
