Irakli Kobakhidze Donates 29 116 Sq M of Land to Church for One GEL

In November and December, the illegitimate government of Georgia transferred a total of 29 116 square meters of state-owned land in the municipalities of Kutaisi, Tetritskaro, Khobi, Chkhorotsku, Marneuli, and Tskaltubo to the Orthodox Church for a symbolic price of 1 GEL.

As per a decree signed by Irakli Kobakhidze on December 2, the Georgian Apostolic Autocephalous Orthodox Church was granted ownership of 3194 square meters of non-agricultural land with buildings and structures in the Tetritskaro municipality, Manglisi settlement, for 1 GEL.

In another decree issued on December 2, the church was granted ownership of 12,183 square meters of non-agricultural land in Pirveli Maisi, Khobi municipality, for 1 GEL. Additionally, the National Agency for State Property was authorized to transfer a 3877 square meter plot of land in the same village to the church for a period of 99 years, starting from the date of signing the relevant agreement, with the right of gratuitous usufruct. The plot includes non-agricultural land with buildings and structures on it.

By decrees issued by the illegitimate government on December 2, 3,125 square meters in the village of Chora, Chkhorotsku municipality, and 296 square meters in the city of Kutaisi, adjacent to Irakli Abashidze Avenue No. 27, were transferred to the church for a symbolic price.

Land was also transferred to the Orthodox Church for 1 GEL in November. Kobakhidze issued a decree on November 22, granting the church ownership of a 10,000 square meter plot of non-agricultural land in the village of Yalguja, Marneuli municipality. A decree issued on November 18 transferred a 318 square meter plot in the village of Opshkviti, Tskaltubo municipality, to the church.

Based on various sources, the Georgian Orthodox Church, which receives tens of millions of lari in state funding every year, owns more than 62 square kilometers of land.
