‘’One of them, I think Kakha [Kaladze], said that the greatest tragedy is apparently my visits to Europe, - no, Mr. Kakha. The greatest tragedy is when the prosecutor general of the country turns out to be an FSB or KGB agent, and even more troubling is the fact that there is no alarm in the relevant agencies who are responsible for preventing and investigating this. I stand here before you demanding that the public be answered with a thorough and detailed investigation. This is not a request, but a demand,’’ said the president during her speech at a meeting with representatives of non-governmental organizations.
According to Salome Zourabichvili, the Administration of the President received no request or information regarding the revocation of citizenship for Partskhaladze: you won't be able to shift the blame here! It's clear where the responsibility lies.
The president deems that additional evidence from the USA in the case of Partskhaladze is not necessary.
‘’On the same day, before going to Basel, I met with a representative of the American Embassy to find out what evidence they had at hand. I think it would be better if the agencies that are responsible for all of this gave us a timely answer. The answers, data, and evidence are available. No one should be asking America to provide us with additional evidence on top. I think everything is clear. A proper investigation needs to be conducted here, the bank accounts should be frozen, and everything should be done so that the country does not completely lose its face and reputation,’’ said the president.
On September 14, news broke that the USA imposed sanctions on the former chief prosecutor of Georgia, Otar Partskhaladze. The State Department document names Partskhaladze as a Georgian-Russian oligarch with whom Russia's Federal Security Service [FSB] worked to influence Georgian society and politics in Russia's favor.
Otar Partskhaladze served as the chief prosecutor of Georgia from November to December 2013.
