Ivanishvili, Gharibashvili, and Kobakhidze "Do Not Intend to Stay in Parliament"

The Russian law of the Georgian Dream party threatens independent media and civil society organizations and hinders Georgia from joining the European Union.

Russian law establishes Putin's rules in Georgia, which has eliminated free speech in Russia.

When you are oppressed, there will be no one to cover your problem and stand by you.

Georgian News will resist the Russian intention of the Georgian Dream to the end!

As per a statement by the leader of the parliamentary majority, Mamuka Mdinaradze, the honorary chairman of the ruling party Georgian Dream, Bidzina Ivanishvili, along with Chairman Irakli Gharibashvili and Political Secretary Irakli Kobakhidze, will renounce their mandates in the 11th parliament.

“These people, as far as I know - and this is not, I think, a secret - Bidzina Ivanishvili, Irakli Kobakhidze, and Irakli Garibashvili do not intend to remain in parliament. They are the leaders of our party - the honorary chairman, the political secretary, and the chairman - and they were included in the parliamentary list, as is customary, formally. In reality, they are leaving their parliamentary mandates and will apply very soon,” Mdinaradze told journalists.

Bidzina Ivanishvili, Irakli Kobakhidze, and Irakli Garibashvili occupied the first three spots on the Georgian Dream parliamentary list.

Today, on November 25, the Georgian Dream held the first session of the 11th convocation of parliament, where it recognized the authority of all 150 members. With 88 votes in favor and none against, Shalva Papuashvili was re-elected as Speaker of Parliament, and Giorgi Volski, Tea Tsulukiani, and Nino Tsilosani were elected as his deputies.

The session, attended only by members of the Georgian Dream, took place against the backdrop of a protest rally in front of the parliament.

As per the Constitution, the President is supposed to convene the first session of the newly elected Parliament. However, Salome Zourabichvili did not do so, as she appealed the results of the parliamentary elections and, accordingly, the legality of the election of all 150 members to the Constitutional Court.

Constitutional experts explain that the Parliament did not have the right to recognize the authority of those whose election’s legality was under appeal in the Constitutional Court. As a result, this and other decisions made by the Parliament are considered illegal.
