"Now it is crucial to recognize that the Georgian Dream government is attempting to play a double game.
They criticize the United States and their European partners while simultaneously telling their people that they are still on the path to joining the European Union. This is dishonest. It is important for us and the international community to clearly convey to Georgian voters and the Georgian people that there is a clear choice. They must make the decision themselves, but the path that Georgian Dream is leading them on does not align with the transatlantic future that the Georgian people desire," stated the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State.
In his speech, he also emphasized that 2024 is a crucial year for Georgia's future, and the US stressed to the Georgian government the importance of ensuring free and fair elections.
In response to the closed statements made in Congress, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze addressed them at a briefing held today, stating that he had heard "many unfair assessments." As he said, it was "essentially an attack on the state of Georgia by specific politicians." At the same briefing, the Prime Minister also mentioned that there is currently "no alternative" to the Georgian Dream.
