Journalist Quits Imedi TV Amid Controversy Over Refusal to Write Pro-Violence Story

The Russian law of the Georgian Dream party threatens independent media and civil society organizations and hinders Georgia from joining the European Union.

Russian law establishes Putin's rules in Georgia, which has eliminated free speech in Russia.

When you are oppressed, there will be no one to cover your problem and stand by you.

Journalist Tamar Sharikadze has departed from the government propaganda TV company Imedi. As she says, her supervisor instructed her to prepare a story promoting violence.

"After nearly five years of collaboration with the TV company Imedi, my tenure has come to an end. I have always believed and continue to believe that I will never endorse violence in any form! I refuse to propagate unverified information that incites violence!

Specifically, my immediate supervisor instructed me to prepare a story explicitly designed to encourage violence," stated the journalist.

Tamar Sharikadze was employed in the news segment Kronika. Natia Songhulashvili, Head of the Information Service, did not respond to her remarks.

In early May, amidst developments concerning Russian legislation, three hosts of the morning program departed from Imedi TV company.
