The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, stated that during the discussion about the Russian Law on so-called Foreign Agents, one of the European Commissioners threatened him. Specifically, Kobakhidze claimed that he was reminded of the recent attack on the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, a few days ago.

"Society is observing the developments surrounding the law on transparency and notes that several high-ranking foreign politicians are not hesitant to resort to open blackmail against the Georgian people and the elected government. However, even in the midst of this prolonged blackmail, the threat made during a telephone conversation with one of the European Commissioners was particularly alarming.
In particular, during a conversation with me, the European Commissioner listed a number of measures that Western politicians can take after overcoming the veto on the transparency law. While listing these measures, he mentioned, "You see what happened to Fico, and you should be very careful."
When, in the context of blackmail related to the law on transparency, they mention the Prime Minister of Slovakia, who was attacked a few days ago by a terrorist and is currently undergoing treatment, this is extremely concerning for us," said Kobakhidze.
The Prime Minister says that behind the attack on the Prime Minister of Slovakia, "preliminary information" points to "the traces of one of the country's special services, which is particularly closely connected with the global war party."
"For the purpose of prevention, I considered it my obligation to provide information about this threat to Georgian society. The parallel drawn with the attempt to kill Robert Fico reminds us that in the form of a global war party, we are dealing with an extremely dangerous force that will do anything to bring chaos to Georgia," says Kobakhidze.
There are 27 commissioners in the European Commission. They represent EU member states and are responsible for specific areas. It is not known which European Commissioner the Prime Minister of Georgia accused of threatening.
