Kobakhidze: Opposition Parties Have Already Acknowledged Election Legitimacy by Accepting Funding

The Russian law of the Georgian Dream party threatens independent media and civil society organizations and hinders Georgia from joining the European Union.

Russian law establishes Putin's rules in Georgia, which has eliminated free speech in Russia.

When you are oppressed, there will be no one to cover your problem and stand by you.

Georgian News will resist the Russian intention of the Georgian Dream to the end!

The illegitimate Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, claims that recognizing the results of the parliamentary elections means not refusing state funding for opposition parties.

“They may be ahead of us in the Georgian Parliament in February. They have already recognized the legitimacy of the elections today by not refusing to receive funding. If you do not recognize the results, how do you accept funding based on those results, right?

It’s simple - when they had to deal with tangible benefits, they immediately recognized the election results, and, of course, this process will continue,” said Irakli Kobakhidze on the state-run Imedi TV channel.

As reported by the Central Election Commission (CEC), based on the results of the October 26 parliamentary elections, seven parties/electoral entities became eligible to receive state funding starting November 26, the day after the newly elected parliament was recognized. According to the CEC results, four of these entities crossed the 5% threshold in the elections.

Per the November 26 decree of the CEC Chairman, the annual financial allocations for political parties were determined as follows:

  • Georgian Dream – 6 100 265 GEL
  • Unity - National Movement – 1 556 080 GEL
  • Coalition for Change (Gvaramia, Melia, Girchi, Droa) – 1 645 805 GEL
  • Gakharia for Georgia – 1 307 605 GEL
  • Strong Georgia - Lelo, for the People, for Freedom – 1 414 610 GEL
  • Alliance of Patriots of Georgia – 752 995 GEL
  • Girchi – 811 115 GEL

The CEC noted that out of the seven listed parties, only the Coalition for Change refused state funding.

"The deadline for political parties to refuse funding based on the results of the parliamentary elections expires today, December 26, at 6:00 PM," the CEC announced.
