Kobakhidze noted that the election campaign is progressing smoothly; however, Georgian Dream has negative expectations regarding the future actions of the radical opposition. As Prime Minister noted, his party's rating is at 60%, and in such a situation, the opposition has little interest in maintaining a peaceful election environment.
"We all see what is happening in Europe and America. The Prime Minister of Slovakia and a presidential candidate in the United States were assassinated. You all remember the open threat made against us by one of the European Commissioners. Additionally, as you know, the State Security Service is conducting an investigation into the case of an attempted attack on Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili.
Considering all this, our political team is taking special measures to ensure the safety of the honorary chairman of the party, who is the main guarantor of peace in Georgia. This is why Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili does not travel by helicopter, and his safety is ensured by a glass barrier at election meetings, which is a source of particular frustration for the radical opposition.
It should be noted that, in addition to the honorary chairman of the party, the leaders of the radical opposition are also at risk of attack, especially those politicians whose assaults could be most effectively used by the collective 'National Movement' and its patrons to discredit the election process and the government. We warn everyone that any such attempt will be punished to the full extent of the law.”
The radical opposition is actively discussing the artificial development of scenarios that could lead to public unrest. This includes events similar to those following the crime on Khorava Street, as well as the staging of a high-profile criminal act. In this context, we strictly warn that any attempt to artificially bring chaos to Georgia will be severely punished," said Kobakhidze.
He called on the public to remain vigilant and to properly evaluate any small or large provocations by the "radical opposition."
At the briefing, Irakli Kobakhidze was asked on what basis he disseminated information about the risk of attacks on opposition leaders. He responded that such experiences already exist, and specific information has been received from opposition parties.
"These topics are constantly discussed within opposition parties. We also have past experiences. You remember what happened to Givi Targamadze when they organized an explosion right before the elections, and he survived. Otherwise, such an act would have negatively impacted the course of the elections. There is experience, and there are discussions within opposition parties, from which we receive a lot of information," said the Prime Minister.
Kobakhidze noted that an investigation is ongoing within the State Security Service related to "such types of plans."
