According to the State Security Service, the ‘’hotline’’ mechanism was actively used in the process of freeing Kakhaber Natadze and Mamuka Chkhikvadze from illegal imprisonment. The issue of their immediate release from illegal detention was regularly raised by the central government of Georgia within the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) and Geneva International Discussions.
Mamuka Chkhikvadze was serving an illegal 3.8-year sentence in Tskhinvali prison. He was arrested in December 2021 near the village of Nikozi, Gori Municipality. Along with illegal crossing of the so-called border, he was also charged with drug smuggling. In May 2022, the de facto court sentenced Chkhikvadze to 5 years and 6 months in prison. After the appeal, Mamuka Chkhikvadze’s illegal sentence was reduced.
Kakhaber Natadze, born in 1977, was also charged with illegal crossing of the so-called border by the South Ossetian de-facto Security Committee. He was illegally arrested on December 10, 2021, near the occupied village of Tsingari. Kakhaber Natadze is a resident of Gori.
