The cash allowance for a period of paid maternity leave, parental leave, as well as paid newborn adoption leave, is set at 2000 GEL instead of 1000 GEL.

In addition, public school teachers, together with paid maternity leave, parental leave, or newborn adoption leave, will get additional payment to fill up the full amount of the salary during the leave period as an additional social protection measure.
From January 1, 2023, the effect of the government’s decree will be extended to those employees who, in accordance with the Georgian legislation will take maternity leave, parental leave, and newborn adoption leave
The amount of cash allowance for maternity leave was 1000 GEL since 2014, according to the Labor Code of Georgia.
The same code regulates that an employee is granted a paid maternity leave of 126 calendar days, and in the case of complications during childbirth or the birth of twins, maternity leave of 143 calendar days. An employee shall be granted parental leave of 604 calendar days, and in the case of complications during childbirth or the birth of twins, a parental leave of 587 calendar days. 57 calendar days of the leave shall be paid. A period of parental leave may be enjoyed in whole or in parts by the mother or the father of the child.
An employee who has adopted an infant under the age of 1 year shall, upon his/her request, be granted a period of newborn adoption leave of 550 calendar days from the birth of the child. 90 calendar days of the leave shall be paid.
Maternity leave, parental leave, and newborn adoption leave shall be paid from the State Budget of Georgia.
An employee may, upon his/her request, be granted, in whole or in parts, but not less than 2 weeks a year, additional unpaid parental leave of 12 weeks until the child turns 5.
