Based on the lawyer's information, Ucha Abashidze has been arrested under Article 236 of the Criminal Code, which deals with the illegal purchase and storage of firearms.
"The person who was already arrested was taken out of the house, brought down the stairs, and then they let us go. Ucha Abashidze's right to defense has already been violated," said the lawyer.
Shota Tutberidze, a friend of the detainee, told the media that Ucha Abashidze has a registered weapon, and if anything else is found among the seized items, it "will have been planted by the police."
"Limiting the right to defense is a criminal offense," said the Association of Young Lawyers, calling on the Public Defender and the Bar Association to investigate the interference with the lawyer's activities and respond accordingly.
Hundreds of policemen were mobilized near Abashidze's house, where citizens also gathered to support the blogger and protest against the government's repressive actions.
According to the Internal Affairs Ministry, the employees of the Central Criminal Police Department have initiated an investigation into the cyber attack on the websites of several government agencies, including the Internal Affairs Ministry, the Justice Ministry, and the Georgian Parliament. The investigation falls under Article 286, Part 4 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to tampering with computer data or systems, particularly those critical to information systems.
"In the framework of the mentioned investigation, investigative actions have been conducted in Tbilisi and Batumi up to this point. Among them, in one of the residential apartments on Abashidze Street No. 22, law enforcement officers seized illegal firearms and ammunition during a search. As a result, U.A. (Ucha Abashidze) was arrested and charged," the statement from the Internal Affairs Ministry said.
