Today, on January 9, another woman was killed in Tbilisi. A 27-year-old woman was transported to Ingorokva University Clinic with bleeding wounds all over her body by the emergency medical aid brigade. Despite undergoing an emergency operation, the doctors were unable to save her. This marks the second high-profile incident of a husband killing his wife in Georgia in the last 10 days.

The man also injured himself, and he is currently hospitalized. The police have initiated an investigation under Article 19-109 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to intentional homicide committed under aggravating circumstances.
The husband and wife lived in Varketili. According to neighbors, they have a four-month-old child.
On January 1, 36-year-old Irma Bdze was fatally stabbed by her husband in Batumi. The mother of two, aged 15 and 20, succumbed to her injuries immediately after being rushed to the hospital. On January 2, the police arrested a 44-year-old man, who had a history of multiple convictions and was under a conditional sentence, on the charge of premeditated murder. The court subsequently sentenced him to prison as a preventive measure.
"This is a murder committed on the basis of jealousy," said prosecutor Paata Tsetskhladze.
According to the data of the Prosecutor's Office, 195 women were killed in Georgia in 2014-2022:
in 2014 - 33 women;
in 2015 - 17 women;
in 2016 - 28 women;
in 2017 - 22 women;
in 2018 - 18 women;
in 2019 - 15 women;
in 2020 - 22 women;
in 2021 - 18 women;
In 2022 - 22 women.
During that period, 98 women were killed for family reasons, while 97 women lost their lives for other motives. Additionally, 136 attempted murders of women were documented, with 54 cases related to family reasons and 82 cases attributed to other motives.
From 2014 to 2022, nine women committed suicide, and 58 attempted suicide. The prosecutor's office identified a family connection in three cases of female suicide and ten cases of attempted suicide.
The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has not yet published the statistics for femicide in 2023. However, according to the data from the Office of the Public Defender, 13 women were killed in January-June of the previous year, with a family crime indicator identified in 7 cases. The Public Defender notes that, unlike the previous year when the number of attempted murders of women surpassed actual murders, as of the 6th month of 2023, the number of women murdered has exceeded the number of attempted murders by almost 54%.
The intentional murder of a woman committed on the basis of gender, as well as on family grounds, is punishable by 16 to 20 years or life imprisonment.
