Representatives of the local authorities informed Georgian News that they do not know the identity of the detainees or the circumstances of their detention. The de facto government of Tskhinvali has not issued a statement regarding the incident.
The Georgian State Security Service has stated that upon receiving information about the incident, the "hotline" operated by the European Union Monitoring Mission was activated. Information about another case of illegal detention was immediately reported to the co-chairs of international discussions in Geneva and international partners.
A week ago, an incident of illegal detention at the occupation line was recorded. On April 14, near the occupied villages of Zemo Artsevi and Otrevi, representatives of the occupation forces arrested three Georgian citizens: 19-year-old Otar Terashvili, 16-year-old Tamaz Etsadashvili, and 20-year-old Valeri Gunashvili. On April 19, the Tskhinvali court found them guilty of violating the so-called state border, ordered them to pay a fine, and expelled them from the de facto republic.
Currently, there are seven Georgian citizens illegally detained by the occupation regime in Tskhinvali.
"All available mechanisms have been activated to release the illegally detained citizens of Georgia in the shortest possible time. The responsibility for all destructive actions committed in the occupied territories of Georgia, as well as along the occupation line, rests with the occupying forces of Russia," stated the State Security Service.
