"The path towards Europe has been endangered by Russia's adoption of laws, insults directed at American partners, and allegations such as the creation of a second front or coup against them. Now they are jeopardizing our strategic partnership, which is founded on the enhancement of our defense forces to meet NATO standards.
They call it Georgia's interests. At this juncture, they pose a much greater threat to Georgia, which is weakened and isolated," wrote Zourabichvili on her personal Facebook page.
The United States Department of Defense indefinitely postponed the scheduled military exercise Noble Partner with Georgia. This decision was made as part of a comprehensive review of bilateral relations between the US and Georgia, which was initiated by the State Department on May 30.
“The decision to postpone this iteration of NOBLE PARTNER is due to the Georgian government's false accusations against the United States and other western entities, to pressure Georgia to open a second front against Russia to alleviate pressure on Ukraine, and of participating in two coup attempts against the ruling party. As such, the United States Government has determined that this is an inappropriate time to hold a large-scale military exercise in Georgia,” the Pentagon said in a statement released on July 5.
The Ministry of Defense of Georgia deemed the US decision regrettable. Additionally, the ministry announced that there are ongoing formats of mutually beneficial cooperation in defense and security, which will persist: "Despite the postponement of the training, preparations are underway for the multinational training AGILE SPIRIT 2025, noted the Ministry of Defense.
Noble Partner is a military exercise jointly conducted by the Georgian Defense Forces and the US Army European Command, traditionally hosted at the Vaziani and Norio training bases in Georgia.
