Roberta Metsola was re-elected as the President of the European Parliament. In today's voting, Metsola received 562 votes from the newly elected deputies, while her rival, Irene Montero, received 61 votes. A total of 623 deputies from the 720-member parliament participated in the voting.

Roberta Metsola will serve as the President of the European Parliament for the next two and a half years.
"With your support, I will continue to work tirelessly to bring people together. This should be a house that is not afraid of leadership and change. It should be a strong parliament in a strong union. We should not accept that our role as parliamentarians is reduced," Metsola said before the vote.
The 45-year-old Maltese politician, who was first elected to the European Parliament in 2013, is a member of the European Parliament's leading political group, the European People's Party. In January 2022, she became the first woman in 20 years to hold the position of President of the European Parliament.
