“The US Senator Jeanne Shaheen and Congressman Mike Turner will start their visit to Georgia today. We are excited to welcome them. During their bipartisan visit, they will meet with representatives of the Georgian government, civil society, private sector, and political parties. They will also visit U.S. government programs that support internally displaced persons, entrepreneurs, and students. The United States remains fully engaged and committed to supporting the people of Georgia and their Euro-Atlantic aspirations,” the embassy statement reads.
Jeanne Shaheen and Mike Turner's visit is preceded by a letter from President Joe Biden to President Salome Zourabichvili, in which he expresses his disappointment "due to the anti-democratic actions of the Georgian government." Biden cites the Kremlin-style "foreign agents" law and false statements by Georgian government officials as examples of these anti-democratic actions.
