The new Minister and her First Deputy were introduced at a briefing today by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze. The Prime Minister stated that the government will initiate legislative changes to split the Ministry of Culture and Sport following the parliamentary elections.
"We have had great success in the field of sports. In recent years, special attention has been paid to the development of sport, and the creation of a separate Ministry of Sport will be another expression of this focus. Sport will remain a special priority, and the existence of an independent Ministry of Sport will reflect this," Irakli Kobakhidze said.
The Prime Minister also said that after the separation of the Ministry of Sport, Shalva Gogoladze will take over the position of Minister of Sport.
The position of Minister of Culture and Sport became vacant after Tea Tsulukiani resigned following her nomination to the Georgian Dream electoral list. According to the Election Code, after being registered as a candidate for Parliament, ministers are relieved of their positions.
