The Government Assures that the Decrees will be Made Public

The Russian law of the Georgian Dream party threatens independent media and civil society organizations and hinders Georgia from joining the European Union.

Russian law establishes Putin's rules in Georgia, which has eliminated free speech in Russia.

When you are oppressed, there will be no one to cover your problem and stand by you.

Georgian News will resist the Russian intention of the Georgian Dream to the end!

“The government of Georgia should set a tone for others in transparency and accountability. Each decision we take should be most accessible to citizens and we should require the same from other public institutions,” stated Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze during the government meeting today.

Following the session, a journalist inquired of Vice Prime Minister Levan Davitashvili whether the government would make public the decrees regarding the privatization of state property during Irakli Garibashvili's tenure as prime minister, to which the government has not yet complied.

“The fact that the government's decisions will be made known to the public confirms this. It was the Prime Minister's decision, and you will receive this information periodically. I disagree with you on the second part; nothing is signed by anyone. It's simply that the government decides to dispose of state property or to make changes in its disposal, which is based on high public interest and the interests of the country. So, let's be more specific at this moment: concerning access to information, yes, following the Prime Minister's decision, you will have full information,” Davitashvili stated

During Irakli Garibashvili's tenure as prime minister, the administration of the Georgian government was among the most opaque and closed agencies. The government administration withheld public information not only regarding state property sold for 1 GEL but also concerning other significant matters.

According to the non-governmental organization Transparency International - Georgia, in 2023, the Government of Georgia discussed at least 531 draft decrees in 48 meetings, none of which have been made public to date.

23% of last year's decrees—122 out of 531—pertained to the transfer of state property to specific individuals in various forms or the revision of conditions they had previously accepted from the state.
