Representatives of the Russian occupation forces arrested a Georgian citizen near the village of Akhmaji in the occupied region of Akhalgori. According to the State Security Service (SSSG), the illegal detention took place in the occupied territory.

According to the SSSG, activity on the hotline of the European Union monitoring mission has intensified and international partners and the co-chairs of the international discussions in Geneva have been immediately notified about the incident.
“All existing mechanisms have been activated to free the illegally detained Georgian citizen in the shortest possible time,” said SSSG.
Davit Katsarava, a member of the anti-occupation movement, who patrols along the occupation line with his associates, says, based on reports from locals, that the Georgian citizen has been abducted from the territory controlled by the central government. He assumes that the Georgian citizen was transferred to the Akhalgori occupation base.
The occupation regime has not released any information about the incident yet.
Today, eight citizens of Georgia are in illegal detention in occupied Tskhinvali. Among them are Levan Petriashvili and Archil Basanidze, who were sentenced to one-month imprisonment for border violation by the Tskhinvali's so-called court. Levan Petriashvili was arrested near Ergneti village on May 15, and his friend Archil Basanidze was illegally arrested on May 16, in the occupied territory. According to family members, Basanidze entered the occupied region because of a friend.
Former military serviceman Mamuka Chkhikvadze is serving an illegal 3.8-year sentence in the Tskhinvali prison. He was arrested in the village Nikozi of the Gori municipality. Along with illegally crossing the so-called border, he was charged with drug smuggling. In May 2022, the de facto court sentenced Chkhikvadze to 5 years and 6 months in prison. After the appeal, Mamuka Chkhikvadze's illegal sentence was reduced.
