Today, Elisashvili held a briefing with the Special Investigation Service, the agency that has been investigating his case for the past five months under the article of abuse of official authority by police officers.
“For the past five months, both the Special Investigation Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs have been saying, ‘We have not been able to determine who the policemen involved in the violence against you are.’ Meanwhile, TV company Pirveli aired exclusive footage where the faces of many policemen can be seen. I have identified one of them, and I want to present it to you.
This is Zakro Chokheli, the former deputy chief of Khashuri police, and currently a senior official in the criminal police. Zakro Chokheli is among those seen in the footage hitting me. He eagerly rushes out and strikes the fallen man several times.
This is a very serious crime. We will provide this material to this deplorable structure, but I do not hope that anyone will be charged,” Elisashvili said.
On April 17, the leader of the Citizens party, Aleko Elisashvili, was physically assaulted at the rally in front of the Government Chancellery after he tried to break through the police cordon and enter the building. In the footage broadcast by Pirveli TV company, dozens of policemen can be seen beating Elisashvili, who is lying on the ground, with their hands and feet.
Elisashvili said that the assault was carried out on the orders of the head of the patrol police department, Vazha Siradze. The Special Investigation Service initiated the case under the article of exceeding official authority, but no one has been arrested for the group violence against the acting member of Parliament.
It should be noted that a few days before the violence related to the Russian law, Aleko Elisashvili physically confronted Mamuka Mdinaradze, one of the authors of the law, and suddenly hit him in the face during a committee discussion. After the incident, Mdinaradze stated that Elisashvili would receive a “responsible response.”
