"It's time to rise above resentment, reconcile, unite, and win!" Aleko Elisashvili posted a photo with Mamuka Khazaradze, chairman of Lelo, on Facebook with this caption.
In the past, Aleko Elisashvili and Mamuka Khazaradze have frequently criticized each other. Elisashvili referred to the founders of Lelo as "bankers" and "betrayers of the people."
"What Mamuka and Aleko have done is a good example for others that now is not the time to dwell on personal grievances and past disputes. We need to save our country and unite our society through examples of unity.
The handshake between Mamuka and Aleko is an excellent demonstration that, despite past heated disputes, we are now working together to address the severe crisis that the 'Georgian Dream' has led us into," said Badri Japaridze, secretary of the Lelo political council.
On July 17, it was announced that Lelo, Ana Dolidze's party, and the Freedom Square movement will participate in the October 26 parliamentary elections with a single list.
A separate political platform for the parliamentary elections, Unity, was created by the United National Movement and Strategy Agmashenebeli. They were joined by political scientist Gia Japaridze, historian Lasha Bakradze, and independent parliamentarians Armaz Akhvlediani and Tamar Kordzaia. The parties Ahali, Droa, and Girchi - More Freedom also united for the elections.
