Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Baku for a two-day visit. On the evening of August 18, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva hosted him for a dinner at their residence.

The Kremlin states that issues regarding the further development of the Azerbaijan-Russia strategic partnership and allied relations, along with current international and regional problems, will be discussed during the visit. The conversation is also expected to cover the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
This is Vladimir Putin's first visit to Azerbaijan since he launched the war against Ukraine in February 2022. Prior to arriving in Baku, Putin made state visits to North Korea and Vietnam.
