Voskan Voskanyan, the deputy director of Bediani Psychiatric Clinic, was charged with the murder of a 53-year-old woman in the village of Bediani, Tsalka municipality. The murder took place on the night of November 29. The court sentenced Voskanyan to prison.

According to the information of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the investigation established that the culprit inflicted a fatal injury to a woman from the village with an ax due to a mutual dispute and fled the crime scene. The murdered woman worked as a caregiver at the Bediani psychiatric clinic, from which she was released a few months ago.
The defendant pleads not guilty. "During his testimony, he told the investigator that the woman contacted him twice by phone before the murder and asked to meet. When he arrived at the meeting point, the woman was waiting for him with an ax and proceeded to attack him. When the axe hit his body, he was able to wrestle it away and struck his attacker twice. Then he got scared and went home. He did not hide anywhere. The police apprehended him at his own house," said the defendant's lawyer.
The police arrested Voskan Voskanyan a few hours after the murder. According to the information of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the weapon of the crime was seized as evidence. If found guilty, Voskanyan faces 10 to 15 years in prison.
The investigation into the fact of premeditated murder is ongoing under Article 108 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
Last year, 25 women were killed in Georgia.
